I really love diving into the Fall season! Last week we celebrated the Reformation. It was a wonderful weekend and an incredible celebration of the work of the Holy Spirit. We also gathered as a community for our Oktoberfest event, with root beer, brats, and lots of fun. This week we are getting ready for Trunk or Treat. There will be costumes, candy, and Halloween fun! Before long, we will also be celebrating Thanksgiving, and then preparing for the coming of our Lord in the seasons of Advent and Christmas.
It feels like there is always something to look forward to this time of year. This week, though, we are taking time to pause for All Saints Day. Instead of rushing ahead to the next event, we are going to look back and remember people we have lost. Over the years, all kinds of people have changed our lives through the love they shared. As I reflected on those we lost this year, I was filled with memories. There were people who laughed with me and supported me. There was a woman who always made my kids feel welcome and special. There was a man who always had a joke and a word of encouragement.
Each of these people shared God’s love in the world. We may be busy with all kinds of things, but we need to remember the people who blessed us along the way. The apostle Paul calls everyone who is part of Christ’s church a saint. We do not have to be perfect! God works through imperfect people all the time. We also remember that death does not have the last word. Through his resurrection, all are made one in Christ. Jesus shows us that we are all invited into God’s kingdom.
Today I hope we can all pause for a moment and hold on to the hope God gives us. Whether we are looking forward to good things to come or going through a difficult season, God is with us. I invite you to join us this week. Even if you can't make it to worship, take time to light a candle and remember those who shared God's Love with you.
Blessings,
Pastor Brian
